The aim of the project is to revive the Fallen church of the fairy-tale town of Grottole, southern Italy. The alluring ruin should be transformed in a gatherin space. a vibrant cultural centre of community life for local and foreign visitors.
The concept has been led by the idea of keeping the existing parts of the building without trying to strongly intervene and change the essence of the church or it’s systematic. Instead of reconstructing or introducing new dominant elements the design is aiming to embrace the ruin character and let the building maintain its name - the Fallen church. The chosen design elements abstractly mimic these parts of the building which dissolved and slowly disappearted over time.
